Substance Abuse

People reacting to addiction with shame is what got us to our problem with criminalization. When the fault is entirely the addict, instead of understanding that the substance abuse rewires the brain, it leads to blaming the addict instead of helping them. When shame is laid on the addict, it takes away their support, and causes them to fall back. This creates roadblocks to actually achieving recovery. We must accept that addiction is a "disease" and a public health issue, and one that can be solved through innovative and compassionate thinking.

Mental Health

Mental health disorders affect a person's thinking, feeling, behavior or mood. This impacts day-to-day living and affects the ability to relate to others. If you think you have a mental health disorder, the first thing you must know is that you are not alone. This condition is far more common than you think. According to National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI):

  • 20% of adults experience mental illness
  •  5% of adults experience serious mental illness
  • 17% of youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder
  • 50% of all lifetime mental illness begins by age 14, and 75% by age 24

Getting treatment is difficult and a important decision you can make for yourself or a loved one. Our programs help adults and adolescents dealing with mental health disorders, alcoholism, drugs, and other addictive behaviors. Using strength from the individual and courage from the family, the process of intervention can build up the individual from within, without ultimatums, but through creating a genuine desire to change. We use proven methods and evidence-based intervention models such as the Johnson, ARISE, and RAAD models. We honor the dignity and respect of the person and family and strive for healing for both the family and addict.
